Successful Healing of a Young Woman with Cystic Acne
26 year old Caucasian female came in for a first visit in October 2008. Her diagnosis from both family practice and a Dermatologist was Acne Vulgaris.
Patient had 11 visits, which included comprehensive history taking, physical exam, saliva hormone testing, and comprehensive blood work. She had 6 acupuncture treatments, 1 nutritional session, 2 counseling sessions, which included teaching her Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) to cope with emotional and physical stress. The final session was a review of all tests and further recommendations. I have diagnosed this young woman with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. She was referred for an Ultrasound which confirmed the diagnosis.
The patient comes in once a quarter or as needed for maintenance. She is under an Endocrinologists care as well. She does not take any prescription medications and maintains her pre-diabetic condition (which is a part of the PCOS dx) with nutrition and supplements. Her testosterone levels are within normal limit, after treatment with herbal tea and supplements. Her skin is clear for most of the time and she has stopped even the topical antibiotics as there have not been any new skin outbreaks. She eats a gluten and dairy free diet, drinks alkaline water and practices EFT for emotional health. At this time, she is using a galvanic, a hand-held at home treatment to help with the scarring on her face with fantastic results.
