What is Burning Stomach Pain?

Burning stomach pain can be cause by different factors. Some can be cause by certain disease and complications. However, the most common cause of this type of stomach pain is diarrhea, indigestion, ulcer, pancreatitis and appendicitis. Here are the steps to alleviate burning sensation and pain in your stomach.

Diet – Burning sensation and pain can be relieved by changes in diet. Try eliminating specific foods like spicy foods, chocolate and coffee. These types of foods can aggravate burning stomach pain.

Quit smoking and alcohol – Smoking and alcohol can lead to stomach pain and certain type of digestive disorder.

Antacids- over the counter medication such as antacid or H2 blockers can reduce the burning sensation in the stomach.


Sometimes stomach pain can also be caused by lactose intolerance aside from indigestion. This can also cause a burning sensation due to the insufficient amount of digestive enzyme lactase.

If the pain persists for more than a week when taking medication, if it worsens or is accompanied by dizziness, or nausea, if you have blood in your stool, or if you are vomiting with blood then see a doctor immediately. The problem can be related to ulcers, a cardiac condition, cancer, or inflammatory bowel disease such as colitis. This should be treated immediately to avoid further complication, which may lead to death. Burning stomach pain can be fatal if left untreated.
