A 56-year-old male came to the clinic with a diagnosis of early-stage Parkinsons disease. He presented with rigidity and pain in both arms and a resting tremor. After confirming the diagnosis of Parkinsons disease from an Oriental Medicine perspective, he commenced treatments at Bethesda Wellness Center with Melissa Osmun, L.Ac.
Ms. Osmun treated him with an acupuncture and tui na massage protocol developed by the Parkinsons Recovery Project twice a week. Within six months, the pain in his arms was alleviated. Treatment sessions were reduced to once every week to two weeks. Within two years, the resting tremor was gone. Four years later, he returned to the diagnosing neurologist who confirmed that his Parkinsons disease was in remission.
He continues to be treated four times per year for maintenance and is happy to be symptom free now, over two years later.
